Charity Spotlight: Saving The Survivors

Posted on

Wildlife conservation is often about protecting animals before tragedy strikes. But sometimes animals survive horrific encounters with poachers or other threats, and when they do, organisations like Saving The Survivors step in.

Saving The Survivors provides specialised veterinary care for injured wildlife, particularly animals that have survived poaching attacks. Their work has become internationally recognised for treating some of the most severe wildlife injuries ever documented.

Founded by wildlife veterinarian Dr Johan Marais, the organisation focuses on animals that would otherwise have little chance of survival. Their veterinary teams perform complex surgeries, treat severe trauma injuries, and provide long-term rehabilitation for species such as rhinos, elephants and lions.

Many of the animals they treat are victims of poaching, particularly rhinos targeted for their horns. Through careful medical intervention and ongoing care, Saving The Survivors has helped many animals recover and return to the wild.

Their work is a powerful reminder that compassion, dedication and science can give wildlife a second chance.
